Planning a Server Room Exit Without Downtime
June 2, 2026 · 8 min read
The riskiest cloud migrations are the ones scheduled around the vendor's calendar instead of the business's. We start by mapping the operational cycle: month-end close, peak production, grant deadlines.
Then we sequence by dependency, not by ease. Identity moves first, file data second, line-of-business applications last, with a rollback path documented at each gate.
Cutovers happen on a Friday evening with a Monday-morning war room, and we keep the old environment powered but isolated for two weeks. It costs a little; it buys certainty.
Once the room is empty, the savings show up in three places: hardware refresh cycles, power and cooling, and the after-hours labor nobody used to track.
